Avatars

1. Hover over your username at the top right of the screen. A menu drops down. Click on "Avatar." You have the option of uploading a custom avatar or using a Gravatar.

2a. If you want to use a custom avatar, click on the radio button next to "Use a custom avatar." Click the "Choose file" button and find the file that's saved on your computer. It's recommended that the image is at least 200x200 pixels. You can crop it when you upload it. Keep in mind that avatars on the forum are circular (rather than square). After you select the file, click on the "Okay" button.

2b. If you want to use a Gravatar, click on the radio button next to "Use Gravatar". Enter the email address associated with your Gravatar. Click on the "Test" button to make sure the correct image comes up. Click on the "Okay" button.

If at any point you want to remove your avatar, follow step 1. Then click on the box next to "Delete current avatar". Then click the "Okay" button.

Signatures
(Every member is allowed two signatures, each up to 600x200 pixels in size.)

1. Hover over your username at the top right of the screen. A menu drops down. Click on "Signature."

2. You can format text in your signature by using the toolbar on the Edit Signature screen.

3. If you'd like to include an image in your signature, it must be hosted on an external site, such as ImageShack, TinyPic, Imgur, Postimage, Flickr, or ImgBB. Each of these sites works a little differently, but in general you'll need to create an account on the site if you don't already have one. Then upload the image. After the image is uploaded, find the direct link to it. Copy that image link.

4. On the Edit Signature screen, click on the Image button. It's on the toolbar, to the right of the Smilies button.

5. Paste the image link into the box that comes up. Click on the "Insert" button.

6. The image should appear in the signature box. If you'd like to change the alignment of the image (right, center, left), you can click on the image and then click on the alignment button in the toolbar.

7. You can click the "Preview" button to see what your signature will look like on the forums.

8. When you're done editing your signature, click on the "Save Changes" button.

Update: In July 2017, Photobucket announced that it will not host third-parting linking anymore for free accounts. That means that with a free account, you will no longer be able to host images on Photobucket and then link/embed them on other sites (including forums). As Photobucket phases out hosting, error images will replace any Photobucket-hosted images.

There are free alternatives out there. Here are a few you can check out: ImageShack, TinyPic, Imgur, Postimage, Flickr, or ImgBB.
